Opportunity Knocks

Opportunity Knocks is a community collaborative of health, educational, and parent affiliates, in Middletown, Connecticut, who convened in June 2003 in response to a four year planning and implementation grant from the Funders’ Collaborative. Opportunity Knocks links pediatric health services and systems with early care and education programs leading to optimal child development and subsequent school success. Based on community needs assessment data, large numbers of Middletown children were reaching kindergarten with unmet nutritional, dental, and social and emotional health needs. There is a strong association between early physical, social, and emotional well-being, subsequent school success and lifetime achievement. Opportunity Knocks’ vision is that every Middletown child enter kindergarten physically and emotionally healthy and ready to succeed.
