Robert G. Kiely

Robert G. Kiely, President and Chief Executive Officer, joined Middlesex Hospital in 1990 as President and Chief Executive Officer. Previously he was Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for 13 years at The Stamford Hospital in Stamford.

Mr. Kiely is a graduate of Georgetown University with a Bachelor's degree in public administration, and received his Master's degree in hospital administration from George Washington University. He began his career in the health field as an administrative assistant at George Washington University Medical Center. Mr. Kiely is a Phi Beta Kappa, a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, a licensed nursing home administrator in Connecticut, an adjunct professor at George Washington University, a VHA Northeast director, a member of the JCAHO Hospital Advisory Group, an executive committee member of the Middlesex Chamber of Commerce and immediate past-chair at The Connecticut Hospital Association.

Vincent G. Capece

Vincent G. Capece, Jr., Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, joined the Hospital in March 1998. Previously, he was the Director of Accounting at Bridgeport Hospital, where he was responsible for overseeing all aspects of that hospital's financial operations, including internal and external financial reporting for the hospital and its affiliates, a position he held since 1990. Mr. Capece is a graduate of the University of Connecticut where he received his Bachelor’s degree in accounting and his Master’s of Business Administration degree. Mr. Capece is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association and the Connecticut Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Harry Evert

Harry Evert, Vice President, Operations, joined the Hospital in 1980 as Radiology Administrator and assumed his current position as Vice President in 1988. He is a graduate of Quinnipiac College in Hamden, Connecticut with a Master’s Degree in Health Services Administration. Mr. Evert received a Bachelor’s Degree in History from the University of Wisconsin in 1970 and graduated from the Danbury Hospital School of Radiologic Technology in 1974 as a Certified and Registered Radiologic Technician. Mr. Evert is administratively responsible for a variety of the Hospital’s clinical and support departments and has participated in planning, construction and renovation projects including radiation therapy, CT scanning, operating room and emergency room facilities.

Ludwig Johnson

Lud Johnson, Vice President, Information Services has 35 years of Information Technology, Financial Management and Management Engineering experience. He is also the founder of Company 1 Consulting (1984), a consulting firm specializing in improving health care through the use of Information Technology. This unique experience has given him a broad insight to the industry and has increased the effectiveness of solutions for Middlesex. Mr. Johnson holds and undergraduate degree in Business Administration from Northeastern University and Master of Science in Management from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

 Susan Martin

Susan Martin, Vice President, Finance, joined the Hospital in October 1988 as the Accounting Manager and has held various other positions within the organization including Director of Finance of Integrated Resources for the Middlesex Area, LLC and Chief Compliance Officer of the Middlesex Health System. Ms. Martin holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Hartford and she is a Certified Public Accountant. Prior to joining the Hospital, Ms. Martin worked in Public Accounting and Manufacturing.

 

Laura A. Martino

Laura A. Martino, Vice President, Philanthropy, joined the Hospital in 1996. Previously, she was the Director of Philanthropy at Stamford Hospital Health Foundation for eight years. Ms. Martino received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Keene State College and holds a certification in Annual Giving from the Institute for Healthcare Philanthropy at the University of Wisconsin.

Arthur V. McDowell, M.D.

Arthur V. "Buddy" McDowell, M.D., Vice President for Medical Affairs, is a former chairman of the Middlesex Health System Board of Directors. He is currently chief of cardiology at Middlesex Hospital and also practices at Middlesex Cardiology Associates. Dr. McDowell is a Fellow at both the American College of Physicians and the American College of Cardiology. He is also the Chairman of the Governance Committee.

Susan Menichetti

Susan Menichetti, Vice President, Operations, joined the hospital in 1983 as a Vice President. She holds a Master's degree in Public Administration with a concentration in health care administration from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York and a Bachelor's degree in Economics from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. Ms. Menichetti is administratively responsible for a number of hospital departments and also oversees the hospital's quality, public reporting, and community benefit activities.

Gregory Nokes

Gregory B. Nokes, Vice President, Human Resources, joined the Hospital in 2007.  Previously, he was a partner in the law firms of McCarter & English, LLP and Cummings & Lockwood, LLC, where his practice focused on labor and employment law.  He represented the Hospital in labor and employment matters beginning in 1992.  Mr. Nokes holds a B.S. in Management from the University of Vermont and a J.D. from the University  of Connecticut School of Law.


Colleen Smith

Colleen Smith, RN, Vice President, Nursing, is a graduate of the University of Connecticut where she received both her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree and her Masters of Science in nursing degree. Her graduate studies prepared her as a medical-surgical clinician. Ms. Smith is a Wharton Nurse Fellow. Ms. Smith has been affiliated with the Hospital since 1986 when she was an instructor with the Wilcox College of Nursing until 1992. Since that time she has served as the Director of Medical/Surgical Nursing and assumed her current position in 1995.
